FOGO Processing Facility (FPF)

FOGO Service Summary

The Resource Recovery Group is an experienced, licensed and quality assured organics processor with existing metropolitan infrastructure repurposed to meet the demands of a progressive state waste strategy. We offer:

FOGO receival and processing capacity

Operating since 2019 our metropolitan FOGO receival and processing facility has licensed capacity of 109,200 tonnes per annum.

Proven and ethical supply chains

Collection vehicles deliver the raw FOGO, which is then pre-treated prior to delivery as feedstock to secondary processors. Bulk vehicles then return quality assured bagged and bulk products for distribution to local government and other customers for use in parks, gardens and landscaping applications in the metropolitan area, or direct to farming applications.

High recovery rates

To achieve State Waste Strategy material recovery targets of 75% by 2030, it is necessary to adopt FOGO collections and achieve an 85% recovery rate from the FOGO bin. Resource Recovery Group members currently achieve an average contamination level in the FOGO kerbside bin of 2.6%. and an overall recovery rate after processing of 90%.

Quality assured products

FOGO itself does not make a viable soil amendment without the addition of other organic materials to make fit for purpose products. The decontamination and screening, undertaken at the FOGO processing facility in Canning Vale, prepares the material as a blend ready feedstock for a range of quality assured soil amendment products that are sold into local markets.

Carbon offsets opportunities

The Resource Recovery Group has been credited with more than 600,000 tonnes of Federal government approved carbon offsets over a 15-year period to a value of circa $4 Million, from avoiding methane emissions in landfill by composting the organic fraction of the waste stream. This experience provides our customers with the opportunity to develop a new revenue stream from processing FOGO from the sale of the abatement into the Australian carbon credit market, utilising a Source Separated Organic Waste methodology under the Emissions Reduction Fund to monetise carbon abatement.

Competitive Gate Fees

Gate fees are related to volume, contamination, product quality, carbon rights and contract duration. Please contact us to discuss commercial terms.

FOGO implementation advice

Having implemented the first metro FOGO collection system to 55,000 households in 2019, we have the knowledge and experience to assist a successful rollout in your area. Communication, planning and procurement are critical success factors, and we can provide the correct advice and tools to achieve a successful roll out.
