Following Town of East Fremantle’s planned 2024 withdraw from Resource Recovery Group (RRG), The City of Melville officially confirmed its decision to withdraw membership and participation from the RRG at an Ordinary Meeting of Council. Subsequently, the City of Fremantle resolved on the 22 May 2024 to give formal notice to the Chief Executive Officer at the Resource Recovery Group of the City of Fremantle’s intention to withdraw as a member and project participant of the Resource Recovery Group, effective from 1 July 2025.

Luke waved down City of Waneroo’s Truck Operator, Glen, and he was more than happy to park “Karli” at the entrance to Resource Recovery Group’s facility. It’s great to see Glen’s “Karli” unloading resources to be streamed, sorted, and sent to our processing partners.

Resource Recovery Group’s Canning Vale Centre currently has over 90,000 tonnes per annum spare capacity to process Food Organics, Garden Organics (FOGO) waste. Recent media reports have claimed that several WA councils are choosing Waste-to-Energy over FOGO – the Food Organics, Garden Organics bin system that the WA State Government has recommended all councils adopt by 2025. Part of the justification for this decision, or delay in adopting FOGO, is that Perth/Peel does not currently have the FOGO processing capacity. This is simply not true.

The SMRC has been recognised for its commitment to workplace safety, recently receiving two industry awards. On 2 April the SMRC accepted a Gold Diligence in safety award from LGIS CEO Jonathan Seth. Mr Seth congratulated the SMRC and RRRC for ongoing improvements, which have resulted in a highly commendable safety rating.
