Recycle Right Rangers

History

The Recycle Right ‘Rangers’ volunteer group was set up in March 2021. Previously, a Community Advisory Group (CAG) was established in 2009 to enable the Resource Recovery Group (previously known as the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council) to engage with and be responsive to the community, especially in terms of odour issues. Over the years, the CAG changed its name to the Waste Reduction Recycling Education Network (WREN). The role of the WREN evolved considerably over time, with reduced members and reduced representation of Member Councils. There was less need to gather and provide community feedback and the group members were keen to reach out further to the community to provide education and advice, a role that was better placed with the Recycle Right Education team at the Resource Recovery Group. A review of the WREN was undertaken in November 2020, and it was agreed by the Stakeholder Relations Committee (and endorsed by SMRC Council in February 2021) that the WREN be dissolved, and a new volunteer group be established.

Purpose

The Recycle Right Rangers is a volunteer group under the umbrella of the Resource Recovery Group's ‘Recycle Right’ Education Program. The Recycle Right Rangers will:

Assist the Recycle Right Education team to encourage and assist residents and businesses in Western Australia to recycle, reduce their waste and live more sustainably.

This will be achieved through volunteering/assisting at:

  • Public community events
  • School incursions
  • Tours of the Canning Vale Centre
  • Education workshops for the community run by the Recycle Right Education team
  • Other tasks that may arise with the Recycle Right Education team

Potential roles available

Events Ranger

Give the Recycle Right Education team a hand at community events such as festivals, fairs and shows as well as Recycle Right waste education workshops and community presentations. Skilled Ranger

Do you have a specific skill (such as craft/art, website experience, video production, graphic design, data entry, sustainable gardening) that could help the Recycle Right Education team?
